I started Benfield Photography as a way to pay for college. After earning my Master’s Degree and teaching college photography, I decided to transition into a full-time photographer. Since then, I’ve photographed more than 500 weddings all over the country and abroad. I’ve also published two books on photography and business.
Benfield Photography photographs weddings in Arkansas, California, and worldwide. I’ve photographed weddings in Rome, proposals in Paris, weddings in New York City, Dallas, Memphis, Austin, Los Angeles, Napa Valley, San Diego, Aspen, and elsewhere.
About My Style
I’m a wedding photographer with a home base in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
As a natural light photographer, I use what God provides to create my images. I like to think of it as the chef that goes to the Farmer’s Market to buy what’s fresh and in-season. When you look at the blog in October, you’ll see lots of yellows, oranges, and reds because I embrace the season! During spring months you’ll see color… lots and lots of color! Shooting this way keeps me inspired!
I approach weddings like I am longtime friends of the couple, which in most cases becomes the reality. By becoming close over the engagement process, it’s easy for me to create a deep bond with our couples, and makes photographing them really easy because they are comfortable in front of my camera (even if they aren’t fans of being photographed). I absolutely cherish my one-on-one time with the couple on the wedding day (it’s my favorite part of the wedding day!), because I get to share some really important time with them and create amazing portraits.
Things I Love
My daughters! I have two darling daughters that are unique and wonderful in their own ways. Ellie loves to dance, take and edit photos, and is on her way to becoming quite the foodie. Ellie is kind. Cece is hilarious, loves to sing, and organizes anything you place in front of her. Cece is feisty.
My fiancee, Tyler! I met her when I shot her sister’s wedding in 2008. She was the maid of honor and I had always been a fan. Apparently she is my fan, too, because on September 4, 2018, she said yes to marrying me. She gets me and all my crazy. Tyler is lovely, gifted, brilliant, funny, and I can’t stop staring at her anytime she is near me.
Vegan Food! My fiancee and I are both vegan – I started because dairy wasn’t my friend, and she started because ALL the animals were her friends… when we joined forces we decided to go all in with a vegan lifestyle.
Coffee! It’s bad. A late bloomer to the coffee community, I feel like I need to catch up on my consumption. That’s why I drink twice as much coffee as a normal person. Hazelnut lattes or a strong cappucino both have me doing a happy dance.
Traveling! Packing a camera bag and hopping on a plane fills me with such joy. I’m incredibly grateful for all the couples who have loved my wedding photography enough to bring me to new places (Aspen, Alaska, Napa, Rome, Paris, NOLA, Los Angeles, and Mexico are some of my recent trips!)
